easy mango lassi recipe with yakult and boba inclusions
i added chili threads too cuz saffron is too expensive
dear fam,
I think when I’m 70, I’ll still like cute things. I love making drinks at home and giving them a cute spin. Maybe it’s because they always remind me of the kawaii food and drinks I had during my trips to Japan.
I love mango lassi, a timeless and staple Indian drink enjoyed for centuries. I looked at a few recipes online and found a recurrent theme: mango lassi has yogurt, mangos, and cardamom.
You can add other flavors as you please, such as saffron, rose water, pistachios, and maybe even turmeric to add more yellow color.
I decided to give mango lassi an East Asian spin, adding Yakult, a yogurt drink, boba, and just to spite my lactose intolerance, I added whipped cream. (It does make it more aesthetic!)
The drink is not too sweet, and you can further balance the tarty tang and sweetness with miso if you’d like. I didn’t add it this time. I’m running out of miso fast, and groceries are getting so expensive.
Hence, I also didn’t add saffron because I couldn’t justify buying a small jar for $30. Instead, I added chili threads, which look like saffron but have a spicier taste. I found it lovely in the mango lassi!
